ABOUT CENTRE OF EUROPEAN STUDIES
Centre ofÜEuropean Studies ofÜNSU was set upÜinÜ2000Üwith the support ofÜthe Tempus Tacis programme ofÜthe European Commission. CES started their activities with the performance ofÜaÜEuropean and Russian joint project «Novosibirsk State University inÜNetwork ofÜEuropean Studies»(NÜT_JEP- 10716-1999) drawn together byÜNSU and European universitiesÜ partners: Universit┴ Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (Milan, Italy), the University ofÜUtrecht (the Netherlands), Ludwig Maximilian University (Munich, Germany). The project was given aÜshort name SUNNIEST, thus encougaging the Italian colleagues toÜsuggest anÜimage ofÜsun asÜaÜsymbol ofÜthe project. Afterwards, the symbol ofÜthe project was attributed toÜCES asÜwell.
Within the framework ofÜthe project SUNNIEST, the professors teaching atÜthree faculties ofÜNSU (Humanities, Economy and Journalism) worked upÜaÜtwo-year programme ofÜsupplementary education onÜthe speciality ofÜEuropean Studies comprising twelve courses with the scope ofÜhistory ofÜEurope and European integration, economy and law inÜmodern Europe. Moreover, the students were offered toÜmaster their English asÜwell asÜtoÜhave aÜchoice ofÜeither German orÜItalian language toÜstudy. InÜJune 2000Üthere was the first enrollment ofÜstudents toÜthe programme ofÜEuropean Studies atÜCES. The four-year students both ofÜHumanities and ofÜthe Faculty ofÜEconomy became the first students ofÜCES. AÜyear later, the students ofÜaÜnewly-created Faculty ofÜJournalism joined them.
More than 60Üstudents ofÜNSU graduated from the programme ofÜsupplementary education onÜthe speciality ofÜEuropean Studies within the years 2000-2003. Many ofÜthem either continue their education overseas orÜwork for international organizations and joint ventures inÜRussian Federation.
InÜ2003, CES initiated the process ofÜsigning the contract between the University for Foreigners (Siena, Italy) and the State University ofÜNovosibirsk with the intention ofÜdisseminating both Italian language and culture inÜRussian Federation. According toÜthe contract, NSU was delegated the right toÜissue CILS certificates. ItÜmeans, the examination tests are sent toÜSiena toÜbeÜchecked up. IfÜthe results are successful, students receive aÜcertificate indicating one ofÜthe four levels ofÜtheir skills ofÜItalian asÜaÜforegn language.
Since 2003Üand upÜtoÜthe present time, inÜCES throughout anÜacademic year native speakers with great teaching expertise give lessons and carry out CILS examinations and paid training courses for CILS examination twice aÜyear. UpÜtoÜthe moment there have been more than 30Üinhabitants ofÜNovosibirsk and other Siberian and Far-Eastern regions who received CILS certificates.
InÜ2004Üthe European Commission supported the performance ofÜaÜjoint European and Russian project ofÜthe TEMPUS programme «Master inÜEconomic Sociology supported byÜECTS inÜNovosibirsk going towards Educational Reform» (T_JEP 24057Ü 2003ÜMESSENGER). InÜ2005, itÜisÜinÜCES that the implementation ofÜthe project was initiated byÜthe professors ofÜthe Chair ofÜGeneral Sociology ofÜthe Faculty ofÜEconomy ofÜNSU together with the European partners: Universit┴ Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Milan, Italy (which appears toÜbeÜaÜcoordinator ofÜthe project), University ofÜTilbourg (the Netherlands), and Erasmushogeschool Brussels (Belgium).
